You know that here at Homes of Silicon Valley we LOVE real estate – but we are also the first to admit that the sacred comforts of home are only as cherished as those lives within them. While it’s easy to look into the windows that display the highlights of our lives... it’s much harder to share the struggles that go on behind the doors for millions of Americans and their families who are living with mental illness. In that spirit, we hope you will join us this month both in heart and in action to spread awareness and eradicate the stigma associated with mental health.

Since 1949, May has been observed as Mental Health Awareness Month. With more than 1 in 5 Americans impacted by a mental health diagnosis, the theme of this year’s observance is to cure the stigmas of shame, fear and silence that create barriers to so many individuals seeking help and treatment. In past years, we have shared a variety of resources on our blog for those in need of help and for those championing the healing process.

This month… we have even more exciting news to share (this message comes from Mark because Jason is FAR too humble to tell you about this himself!)… but the Santa Clara County Behavioral Health Board has informed us that we have a hero on our hands here at Homes of Silicon Valley! Please join us in congratulating Jason Noriega on his Community Hero Award on behalf of his progressive and unstoppable achievements in helping those living with a mental illness. As a Momentum For Mental Health Board Member for 8 years, including serving as Chair of the Board, he has also driven the creation of Venture Christian Church’s first mental health ministry and successfully applied for a $20,000 Sereno Group 1% grant for college funds for the youth of Momentum For Mental Health.

As a full-time real estate agent, devoted father & husband and community advocate for those living with mental health… Jason defines hope in a way that is not only breathtakingly powerful, but entirely action-driven. If you know of anyone who is struggling, please feel free to share this link: Living With Hope & Mental Illness.

We also invite you to TALK about mental health, create conversation, commit to a culture of acceptance and simply open your heart to those on a mental health journey. A little compassion goes such a long way… and we plan to pave the road as far and wide as we can. Thank you for adding your voice and your support… nothing means more!
