As a residential real estate team, Homes of Silicon Valley is not just committed to helping people buy and sell homes, but to truly  understanding how the dynamic nature of Silicon Valley impacts that investment. We all know that to the nation, we are known as that ‘really expensive place where the jobs are’ – but how do you know what is really happening on a local level? What sources can help you stay in touch with local development with a local lens? What IS that big crane doing across the street? What is on the San Jose horizon (in addition to Google San Jose & Transit Village)? What do the big data sources say about our not-so-little issues of inventory, pricing and affordability?

In this week’s blog, we wanted to share a few helpful but lesser known sources that can help keep you informed of what’s going up and coming down the Silicon Valley pipeline.

As always, if you have any questions about what all of this means to your own real estate goals – please do not hesitate to give us a call!

Construction News: Silicon Valley Business Journal

The Silicon Valley Business Journal offers several ongoing series that report on local development. By clicking on the link above, you can see a summary of the latest reports from the sections: Commercial Real Estate, Residential Real Estate, The Housing Factor, Viewpoint and more. Note that some of the content is locked to subscribers, while other articles are public. But it’s a great, worthwhile overview  that hits on some pretty hot, local trends, projects, expansions and factors that influence desired & projected growth.

Crane Watch: Silicon Valley Business Journal

If you liked to play with construction trucks as a kid – this one is for you! Also produced by the Silicon Valley Business Journal, this source tracks the largest development projects in San Jose. Recent updates include Cambrian Park Plaza, the big Santana Row office project and of course… Google San Jose’s campus size.

| BISNOW Silicon Valley

So what is this ‘BISNOW’ thing? This unique, multi-faceted media source strives to get people genuinely excited about real estate through hyper-local news and events that they insist are ‘more fun than a whoopie cushion’. While we wouldn’t go THAT far, the Silicon Valley arm of BISNOW features a diverse and oft-updated series of updates on the Bay’s major cities, featuring both local and national vantages. And we admit some are sort of fun... thought not entirely whoopie-cusion worthy...lol.

| The San Jose Blog

For updates on the gift that keeps on giving, you know, the never-ending discussion surrounding downtown San Jose’s revitalization, check out The San Jose Blog. As a compilation of articles about downtown San Jose from local and national media sources, it also features a development news forum and sections on San Jose Culture, San Jose Pro Sports news and links to local blogs.Don't miss the map of the all the current development projects in downtown San Jose, including those proposed, under construction, and completed since 2015.

SJ Economy

Since the economy is really what it’s all about, what better place to seek updates than SJ Economy, a website created by the City of San Jose’s Office of Economic Development. The SJ Economy Newsroom features our local economic status as reported by many major publications. Another interesting feature is ‘San Jose Business Districts’ which breaks down the benefits and features of Downtown San Jose, North San Jose and South San Jose to companies. By clicking on each municipality, you will see which business have recently moved or planned expansion there – pretty cool!

We hope you discovered a new & worthwhile resource this week, as we all continue to track how our local development and economic trends impact the homes and communities we enjoy every day. If so, please consider sharing this article with a friend and keeping us in mind for any of your present and future real estate needs!

Cheers,

Mark & Jason
