Silicon Valley Retail Upgrades: You Might Have Missed These

Silicon Valley often feels a lot like Las Vegas – it’s a city that never sleeps, especially when it comes to adding innovation and modernization into the areas in which we live, work and play. You’ve likely been following the latest with regards to Google San Jose and heard about the recent and controversial approval of the Vallco mixed-used transformation, but here are a few now-completed updates that may have slid under your radar…

#1: The Great Mall Milpitas

This venue was feeling more good than great, but thanks to an extensive, overdue and now completed two-year renovation – the Great Mall is worth another visit! With more than 200 stores and a long awaited & much improved dining pavilion with ten restaurants, all six entrances have also been modernized with solar-powered signage. Did you also know that the mall now boasts enough new tile to cover 2.5 football fields, has 13,000 new energy efficient LED lights and 6 new lounge areas with phone charging stations? Stop by and see what 125,638 man hours and 4,720 gallons of paint can do.

#2: Eastridge Mall

Another sleepy shopping center quietly completed a year-long, multi-million-dollar renovation in April this year. Eastridge Mall is now 100% leased with two stories full of over 150 retailers plus it’s first-ever children’s play area. Brand new artwork via 20,000 square feet of murals and of course a fresh food court are just part of what visitors can enjoy besides shopping. With a monthly 'Yappy Hour' for dog lovers, open mic nights, fitness classes, dance performances and Art Wednesdays… Eastridge is looking forward to growing its visitor base even larger than the 13-15 million per year that current counts reflect.

#3: Stanford Shopping Center

When Apple and Tesla are just a sneeze away and your shopper’s median income is nearly 30% higher than when you opened – you had better believe that modernization is at the forefront of survival. Such is the story of Stanford Shopping Center, whose 62-year life span has witnessed a huge audience transformation. Meeting consumer demand has meant keeping the ‘park with shopping inside’ environment, but growing to 140 tenants including boutique fitness studios (SoulCycle & Turbo 26 Yoga) and diverse eateries. Experience adds include events such as the annual Stanford Jazz series, fashion shows and Silicon Valley's arguably 'best' Santa for the kids. The ultimate fan  favorite… improved Wi-Fi. Don’t miss the new (opened last month) Habbi Habbi playspace experience for the ‘modern parent’ full of out-of-the-box play for kids and adults.

Last but not least… have you been to The Pruneyard lately?! With the transformation of Campbell’s iconic hot spot nearly complete, click HERE to see what is now open and what the last few additions will be!

While we are all no strangers to the convenience of Amazon Prime, a recent study by real estate brokerage Marcus & Millichap reveals that retail sales are up by 5 percent in San Jose. It turns out that shopping and house hunting have a lot in common… experience, relationships and scenery count more than the click of a mouse.

All our best,

Mark & Jason
