Real Estate MVPP’s (Check Out #11)

MVPP

Here on the Homes of Silicon Valley blog, we often talk about home as a place of comfort. And not just as an emotional refuge, but as an important piece of financial security too. That’s why this week, we wanted to share some just-released data on the most valuable real estate in America as reported by Visual Capitalist. We call these cities the real estate MVPP’s’ – most valuable property players!

The report used the latest data from Lending Tree to create a graphic (shown below) highlighting the top 30 most valuable real estate cities in America. These 30 cities account for almost 57% of the real estate value in Lending Tree’s database. The article reveals each city’s total real estate value, but also accounts for median home prices.

HIGHEST REAL ESTATE VALUE

According to Virtual Capitalist, “New York has the highest real estate value in the country at $2.8 trillion—that’s around the size of the UK’s GDP in 2019. Close behind is Los Angeles at $2.3 trillion, while San Francisco ranks third at $1.3 trillion.” San Jose is #11 in total real estate with $568 billion in value. *Note that New York and Los Angeles have the highest populations in the country, while San Francisco is the most densely populated city in the US just behind New York.

HIGHEST MEDIAN HOME VALUE

When looking at median home value (MHV), San Jose comes in #1 at $1.1 million, and San Francisco holds the #2 spot with a median home value of $959,000. Los Angeles ranks #4 at $688,000 and New York ranks #7 at $501,000. Another interesting note is that half of the top 10 cities for MHV are in the Golden State.

From an investment perspective, it’s important to recognize that this data is based on values in January 2020 before the global pandemic. Accelerated migration to the suburbs may create some coming shifts in urban centers such as San Francisco and New York, but is unlikely to curtail rankings in San Jose which has been predicted as the #2 in Realtor.com’s ‘Top 10 Housing Markets of 2021’ (as we reported last week).

If you have any questions at all about how highest real estate value and median home value data impacts your goals to buy, sell and invest in 2021 – please do not hesitate to reach out! ~ Mark / mark@homesofsv.com
