Moving With Kids (Without Losing Your Sanity)

Transitions from fall to summer can be a challenging time for us all, as we reframe our mindset from summer fun to fall efficiency. Getting the kids back to school, getting your year-end goals in gear, preparing for the holidays – suddenly the to-do lists are never ending. For buyers and sellers, fall may at first seem like a demanding time to consider a move. Yet, fall is the 2nd most popular time of year for real estate transactions, and the National Association of Realtors® recently reported that THIS fall is a significant time for real estate. Inventory pressure and nationally rising prices have pushed more and more individuals and families into fall house-hunting. Whether moving-up or moving into a home for the first time, there are some measures that can make the process more manageable.

As reported by NAR®, families typically move for one of three key reasons:

-          29% of families are hoping to move because their home is too small

-          23% of families are moving for job relocation

-          12% of families need to move due to a change in family situation such as the birth of another child, marriage or divorce

Given that these situations in and of themselves are stressful, adding the tasks of a move can feel overwhelming. But an experienced, family-friendly agent with exceptional communication and realistic expectations can facilitate the buying or selling process according to your needs and schedule (did we mention we have kids ourselves and a few tantrums don’t scare us…little ones included. ;) )

-          UPFRONT EXPECTATIONS. You have likely noticed that your kids don’t function well when they don’t know what to expect…and frankly, most adults don’t either! We believe in setting the stage for what will happen at each phase of the process, i.e. a 45-minute meeting to review goals and expectations, what day to view homes and how long to expect those tours to take, etc. Our goal is to consistently respect your schedule and your priorities, and forecast accordingly.

-          COMMUNICATION. The game of hide-and-seek might be fun when you are a kid…but not as an adult. You don’t want to have to seek out information, wonder where things are in process or wait days for answers. According to the NAR®, 59% of families prefer text communication, 30% desire a mobile site, 71% place great importance on real time listing information & property status changes and 55% want market reports on recent listings & sales readily available. We are committed to communicating with our clients via the method and manner that works for them, and will never leave you guessing.

-          REPUTABLE RESOURCES. Chances are, at some point in your buying or selling process, your family will need a home improvement, moving, cleaning or even financing resource. You will want someone you can trust with your two most precious possessions – your home & family – and we can help. With decades of combined personal and professional experience buying and selling homes, we can happily and proudly refer you to a list of professionals we would trust with our families too.

-          TRANSPARENCY. You know that expressions ‘clear as mud’ - rumor has it that it started in real estate. Have you ever found comparable home analyses confusing? Signed a disclosure that had way too much fine print and way too little common sense? We can’t change the state required forms…but we can deliver the information as clearly and precisely as possible. Your time is valuable, and we aim to minimize phone tag and streamline paperwork.

Or you can just make an appointment and let us know! We’d love to help you and your family make a move that makes sense for you, at any time of year - even a busy one like back-to-school!

Cheers,

Mark & Jason
